Woohoo --- $2.50 Music Downloads for your Phone

Okay, I'm not the sharpest axe in the toolshed so maybe I'm missing something, but I'm a bit skeptical of this new music download service being announced by Sprint-Nextel today. This is conceptually a good idea --- why carry two devices (a phone and an MP3 player), when one can do both. However, as with the recently launched iTunes Phone, it is poorly executed.

The problem here is the price for a download -- $2.50 per song. Maybe someone should call Sprint-Nextel on the "Get-a-Clue" phone and let them know that the going price for music downloads is 99 cents. Much like with camera cell phones, where the quality and features aren't yet at a high enough level for people to forego their digital camera, people won't take these music phones or services seriously until the offerings are competitive with what they can get on a stand-alone basis.
