AT&T Cuts Costs on Entry and Mid-Level Plans While Premium Subscribers Pay More

AT&T has refreshed its unlimited plan lineup with a new generation of offerings designed to simplify choices for families and individual customers. As reported by Phone Scoop, the carrier is introducing Value 2.0, Extra 2.0, and Premium 2.0 plans that replace the previous Unlimited Starter SL, Extra EL, and Premium PL tiers. The new structure maintains family-friendly multi-line discounts while introducing plan flexibility that could reshape how customers evaluate their wireless costs.

The entry-level Value 2.0 represents the most aggressive pricing adjustment. Single-line customers will now pay $50 monthly instead of $66, while those on a four-line family plan drop from $36 to $30 per line; a significant 17 percent reduction. This plan includes a notable addition: 5 GB of high-speed data where none existed before. However, hotspot data capability has decreased from 5 GB to 3 GB, a trade-off that may impact users who frequently tether other devices to their phone.

The mid-range Extra 2.0 plan delivers incremental improvements across data metrics. Monthly pricing adjusted downward by several dollars, landing at $40 to $70 depending on line count. More importantly, AT&T increased high-speed data from 75 GB to 100 GB and more than doubled hotspot allocation from 30 GB to 50 GB. This tier appears calibrated for moderate-to-heavy users who consume streaming content and maintain multiple connected devices.

Premium 2.0 breaks the cost-cutting pattern with a flat $4 monthly increase across all line configurations. Two-line pricing moved from $76 to $80, representing the first plan level to see an increase rather than reduction. The carrier did enhance hotspot allocation from 60 GB to 100 GB, though unlimited high-speed data, HD video streaming, and extended coverage in 20 Latin American countries remain unchanged. This plan is aimed at customers who value unlimited data without constraints.

Perhaps the most significant shift is the plan-mixing capability. Families no longer need uniformity to capture multi-line discounts. Different household members can select different tiers while maintaining per-line pricing advantages, effectively personalizing family plans based on individual consumption patterns rather than forcing everyone into identical service levels. This flexibility could shift how consumers evaluate total family wireless cost when members have divergent needs.
