Your lock screen may soon be filled with ads

It looks like a new change will soon be taking place across all Android devices. As revealed this week, a new platform could soon be taking over your device’s lock screen.

TechCrunch has revealed that Glance will soon be using the lock screen as a place where ads can be displayed. Once it launches, this prime space will soon be used as a media platform that will display promoted content based on its user’s preferences. This means that your lock screen could be filled with ads, random trivia, suggested articles or current news.

Right now, nothing official has been confirmed. But the report says that Glance is already in talks with various US carriers for a potential collaboration. If it manages to get the green light, the platform could launch first on Android devices between now and September.

The platform is already live in other countries on devices such as Samsung, Motorola, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
