Verizon Wireless reminding 3G customers to upgrade their devices

Verizon Wireless has sent out a letter to its 3G customers to make the upgrade now. This is because the company has already set a date when they will shut down their CDMA network.

Fierce Wireless reported that the wireless carrier sent out a letter to customers that will be affected by the shutdown. Adam Wolf, president of National Wireless Independent Dealer Association (NWIDA), shared the letter:

“One or more of your devices will stop working starting the day before your December 2022 bill cycle begins. We’re here to help.

In order to make way for more advanced and reliable cellular services, older 3G networks are being decommissioned by U.S. wireless carriers. At Verizon, our 3G network will be shut down by no later than December 31, 2022.”

According to Verizon, the line of these customers “will be suspended without billing and will lose the ability to call, text, or use data.” And while they will still be able to make emergency calls to 911 and customer service calls to 611, they can only do so until January 1, 2023.

The “remaining impacted lines that are suspended without billing” will be disconnected the “day before your February 2023 bill cycle begins.”

If you are an affected customer, it’s time to upgrade your device.
