Unlimited Data Is No More At The People’s Operator

Unlimited Data Is No More At The People’s Operator

This may not be welcome news -- The People’s Operator, the wireless carrier with a heart, has quietly pulled the plug on its in-demand unlimited data option. Specifically, the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has decided to stop offering its Infinity plan (priced at $59.99), which already came with unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited fast data. Users who availed of this plan and also signed up for Auto Pay got to enjoy a $5 discount every month. And lest we forget -- 10 percent of each bill would be donated to a non-profit organization selected by the customer.

The Infinity plan made its debut back in October of last year, and was open to customers who own CDMA compatible mobile device. It was far from being perfect -- it did not come with international inclusions normally found on similar unlimited plans -- but it did provide a very friendly 50 gigabyte monthly cut off before the customer undergoes data deprioritization. In other words, users could get to enjoy more gigabytes in every billing cycle before having their LTE connection speeds potentially slowed down in times of network congestion.

This is one of the reasons that the Infinity plan was so popular among customers. But with the option no longer made available on TPO’s website, it will surely be missed. For those who want an alternative plan with a great data inclusion, they might want to check out TPO’s Hero option, which at $50 a month comes with 5 gigabytes of 4G LTE data use, as well as unlimited voice calls and text messaging.

For those willing to stay with TPO, it still is not bad of a deal, despite the absence of unlimited data. The MVNO makes full use of major US wireless carrier Sprint’s countrywide CDMA network, plus an unnamed GSM network, and users are free to bring their own compatible Sprint devices. All options offered are no contract plans, and the 10 percent donation to a charity of the customer’s choosing is heart warming.

As for those looking to explore other options, know that affordable unlimited data plans are offered by other mobile operators such as Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Cricket Wireless, and MetroPCS, just to name a few.

For reference, these are TPO’s other plans:

  • Caring plan -- $17.50 a month ($20 a month without Auto Pay credit), already includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and 3 gigabytes of data

  • Hero plan -- $50 a month ($55 a month without Auto Pay credit), already includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and 5 gigabytes of data
