Trump Files Trademark for T1 Smartphone, Launches Mobile Service

Donald Trump's team has introduced Trump Mobile, featuring a bold "47 Plan" and a gold-trimmed phone named the T1. Priced at $499, the device comes with the promise of being "designed and built in the United States." The monthly plan is equally patriotic, costing $47.45 — a nod to Trump's two non-consecutive presidential terms.
Trump Mobile functions as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that will offer 5G service through all three major cellular carriers. The service offers unlimited calling, texts, data, telehealth, roadside assistance, and international calling to over 100 countries including locations with U.S. military bases.
However, industry experts and news reports point to questions about the Trump Mobile claims. The promise of U.S. manufacturing raises skepticism, as it's virtually impossible to build modern smartphones domestically at this price point. The few companies that do manufacture phones in the U.S. typically charge significantly more.
The Trump Mobile website itself acknowledges that "Trump Mobile, its products and services are not designed, developed, manufactured, distributed or sold by The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals," indicating this is primarily a licensing agreement rather than direct manufacturing.
The service comes with some notable features—24/7 U.S.-based customer service, telehealth benefits, roadside assistance, and international calling to military locations. However, the $47.45 monthly cost is considerably higher than similar plans from established budget carriers like Visible ($25/month) and Mint Mobile ($30/month for unlimited plans).
Trump Mobile represents another licensing venture for the Trump Organization, similar to other branded products like watches, sneakers, and Bibles. The president reported earning more than $8 million in 2024 from various licensing agreements, making this telecommunications venture part of a broader merchandising strategy.
The service is set to launch in September, capitalizing on patriotic branding and Trump's political brand, though questions remain about the actual manufacturing origins and value proposition compared to established carriers.
