Your Guide To Everything Apple Unveiled At WWDC 2017

Every year, Apple always makes some important announcements during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), especially those related to software matters. This year, however, the iPhone maker has decided to include some news not necessarily focused on software, such as new mobile devices, even major updates, and a glimpse into Apple’s plans in the near future.

iOS 11

The official announcement of iOS 11 is probably Apple’s biggest one during this year’s WWDC. the newest version of the company’s iOS mobile operating system will be deployed in September later this year. The features and updates include:

• Users can now send money using Apple Pay, and they can do through the iMessage apps. Speaking of which … 
• iMessage apps get a shortcut drawer, which means users can access them a lot quicker
• Siri’s voice gets more natural sounding, and users can now seek Siri’s help with regards to translations
• The camera app can now do Boomerang stuff

The New iPad Pro

Following the release of the 12.9 inch and 9.7 inch variants, Apple this time is offering a 10.5 inch iPad Pro. This new iPad promises a better display screen, and packs a faster processor (the A10 X). iPads in general also get a new dock (thanks to iOS 11) that shows one’s favorite apps that can be easily launched with a swipe from the bottom part of the screen. Also, the Apple Pencil is made more fluid and expansive in terms of capability.

App Store

Apple’s App Store gets a modern new look. Reminiscent of Apple News, the store now offers a Today tab, plus a couple of separate tabs for mobile games and apps.

Apple Watch

In smartwatch related news, the upcoming new version of watchOS (the mobile operating system powering the Apple Watch) will be rolling out some time in fall of this year. According to Apple, its smartwatch offering will be integrated with a Siri focused watch face that will be capable of giving recommendations based on the wearer’s calendar and location. Speaking of watch faces, the Apple Watch will be getting ones inspired by Pixar’s Toy Story.

iMac

A new update is coming to the iMac -- this time with a higher random access memory configuration (32 gigabytes on the 21.5 inch iMac; 64 gigabytes on the 27 inch iMac). SSD drives will also promise to be faster (about 50 percent), and there are also premium AMD graphics cards on the way.

Apple also previewed the iMac Pro. It starts at just under $5,000 and comes with 6 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro gets a minor update with Kaby Lake chips, as well as faster SSD drives.

macOS

Apple took the opportunity to unveil macOS High Sierra, an even updated version of macOS. This version comes with Metal 2, VR headset support, APFS, and HEVC support, among many others. On top of that, the Safari web browser will be much faster, and there will also be improvements for Photos and the Mail app.

Apple TV

Not much to report about the Apple TV, other than the news that Amazon Prime Video is heading to the Apple TV soon.
