Local Channels
There are 210 Designated Market Areas (DMA) in the United States. You can only receive local channels for the DMA in which you live (FCC rules). Satellite TV is currently offered in about 150 of these DMA, covering the vast majority of the population.
High Definition Local Channels are now being offered over satellite in select markets. To receive these channels, you will need to be able to receive high definition programming. For more on the requirements, visit our page on satellite programming in HD.
Where available, local channels are an optional part of your package with Dish Network ($5.00/month), but are bundled in the basic programming package with DIRECTV. This includes any high defintion local channels that you are able to receive over satellite. For DIRECTV, if local channels are unavailable where you live, you will receive a $3.00 bill credit each month.
