How TruBill Calculates your Bill

The trick to minimizing your cell phone bill is to figure out how many "anytime minutes" you need each month, and then finding the lowest cost plan with at least that many minutes in it. Chances are, you need fewer anytime minutes than you think you do because of included plan benefits such as:

  • Unlimited Nights & Weekends: Free airtime during off-peak periods, usually 9:00pm to 6:00 or 7:00am.
  • Mobile-to-Mobile Calling: Free calling between customers of the same carrier. The more customers your carrier has, the more you will benefit from this feature.
  • Incoming Calls: While most cell phone plans charge for both outgoing and incoming calls, these plans only charge for outgoing.
  • Personal Calling Circles: Free calls to/from a designated group of phone numbers. These don't need to be mobile numbers or customers of your cell phone carrier.

Ironically, the more benefits your plan has, the harder it is to calculate the overall impact on your anytime minutes. For example --- assuming your plan offers both for free --- if 20% of your calls are mobile-to-mobile, but all of them occur during off-peak times, then the mobile-to-mobile feature isn't really helping you.

The TruBill calculator considers many of the above variables, as well as charges for additional minutes (overage), long distance, roaming, and optional features (e.g., 7:00 PM free nights) in determining the best plan for you. Most importantly, it adjusts for overlaps in benefits (like the example in the prior paragraph) in arriving at this solution. This is why TruBill is far and away the most accurate and effective cell phone rate plan calculator available anywhere, online or off.
