Postpaid Customers Who Are Getting Unlimited Data Increases To 53.4 Percent

According to the results of a recent survey conducted by Cowen and Company, the amount of postpaid mobile customers who have availed of an unlimited data plan has increased to 53.4 percent. This growth is truly remarkable considering that three years ago, this category of users was only at 22.7 percent. The latest percentage also represents a steady improvement over the 51.6 percent recorded in the previous quarter.

MetroPCS Introduces $50 Unlimited LTE Promo

MetroPCS, the prepaid wireless service brand owned by T-Mobile, is launching a new promo that will give its customers unlimited calls, text messaging, and 4G LTE data for $50 a month. And they can enjoy all of these without having to sign up for a yearly contract. 

 

But wait -- there are some caveats. First of all, subscribers must avail of the promo not later than April 5th of this year. When they do, they will be able to enjoy the promo's inclusions for an indefinite period of time. 

 

Virgin Mobile Overhauls Monthly Unlimited Plans

Without much fanfare, Sprint mobile virtual network operator Virgin Mobile is recently overhauling its monthly unlimited plans, offering new options for its subscribers, especially with regards to unlimited text messaging and international rates. 

 

With this overhaul, Virgin Mobile is now offering no less than five monthly plans for smartphones, with rates starting as low as $20.00 every month. These plans are:

 

Verizon Joins AT&T and Begins Offering a Quad-Play Bundle

Verizon and many other cable, internet, and home phone service companies have been offering double-play and triple-play bundles for years. These bundles allow consumers to combine TV, home phone service, and high-speed Internet into one package in order to save money. Starting this week, however, Verizon is now offering a quad-play bundle that will not only include cable TV, home phone service, and broadband Internet, but will also allow customers to bundle their wireless phone service in as well.

T-Mobile Updates Rate Plans

On May 22, T-Mobile made some changes to their rate plans, adding more value to some plans and also updating the number of data plan options available for smartphone users.

For single lines, there are now 3 options:

  • 500 minutes for $39.99
  • 1,000 minutes for $49.99
  • unlimited minutes for $59.99

The only real change in the single line category is that the $59.99 unlimited plan now includes unlimited text messaging, which was previously an additional $10/month.

MetroPCS Arrives in Boston & New York

MetroPCS, which offers unlimited local calling in plans ranging from $30 to $50 per month, has now launched service in New York City and Boston areas. The New York coverage area goes from a line roughly from New Brunswick and Paterson, NJ eastward through the 5 boroughs of New York City through the western half of Long Island, including Islip and Smithtown. The area also includes a bit of southern Westchester County. (Yonkers and White Plains).
