"OneRate" calling plans A larger no roaming area costs much more per minute. Only pay for the coverage area (local, regional, national) you need on a regular basis.
Buying too few minutes in a calling plan Minutes are cheap, and decline the more you include in your calling plan. Extra minutes are expensive, so try and avoid them.
Not having the best wireless plan for your calling needs Some carriers now offer 20-25 plans in each market--one to fit almost all caller needs. Even if you are happy with your carrier, check your plan every 3 months.
Off-Peak packages These free or discounted packages can save you money on the weekends AND during the week--by converting your anytime minutes to peak ones.
Taxes Overspending on service equals overspending on taxes. If you are overpaying by 30% for your plan, you are also doing that with taxes.
Roaming toll charges Where a roaming call is long distance, it may incur charges of 25-30 cents per minute on top of roaming. This is rarely advertised, so make sure you know how your carrier handles it.

10-10 Numbers Make sure you are aware of what the rates really are. One service charges 99 cents for 20 minutes, but it is also 99 cents for a one minute call.
